What a bathroom remodel with ADS covers

A full remodel takes the room down to the studs and rebuilds the plumbing, wiring, waterproofing, tile, shower or tub, vanity, toilet, floor, lighting and ventilation. Smaller jobs, like swapping a tub for a walk-in shower or retiling an old shower, follow the same steps on a smaller scale.

The people doing the work

The estimate visit is with Brian, the owner. After that it is our own crew, the same faces every day, from demolition to the last fixture. Tile and plumbing are not handed off to another company halfway through.

How the job runs

Protection and demo. Floors are covered from the entry to the bathroom, the room is closed off with plastic, and the old finishes come out.

What is behind the walls. Older bathrooms often hide something, like a soft subfloor around the toilet, corroded supply lines or a fan that vents into the attic. If we find a problem, we photograph it, tell you what it costs to fix, and wait for your written approval.

Rough-in and inspection. Plumbing and wiring are moved or replaced, then inspected before the walls close. We pull the permit and meet the inspector, so you do not have to.

Waterproofing. Every wet wall and the shower floor get a waterproofing membrane, and the shower is water-tested before tile. You will never see this layer, and it decides whether the bathroom lasts.

Tile, fixtures, finish. Tile is set by hand, then the vanity, glass, toilet, lighting and paint, and a final walkthrough with you.

Timeline and cost

Most bathrooms take 3 to 5 weeks and cost $18,000 to $45,000. If this is your only full bathroom, say so at the visit. We order the work so you are without a shower for as short a stretch as possible.

The price moves most with relocating the toilet, drain or vanity, turning a tub into a walk-in or curbless shower, which tile you choose and how much wall it covers, glass enclosures, heated floors, and anything that turns up behind the walls.

What the estimate and warranty mean

The written estimate is itemized, with the scope, the materials and a fixed price before work starts. Nothing is added without your written approval.

The 2-year workmanship warranty is in writing too. If something we built fails in that time, like a leak at a connection we made or tile coming loose, we come back and fix it at no charge.

Before we start

Empty the vanity, medicine cabinet and nearby storage, and clear a path to the bathroom. If you are buying your own tile or fixtures, order early, because one late special-order item can push the start date.
