What counts as permit work in Glen Ellyn
The Village of Glen Ellyn requires a building permit for an enlarged, altered, or remodeled building, and its list names floors, walls, doors, windows, ceilings, and stairs, along with converting unfinished rooms, basements, or attics into habitable space and changing any space to bedroom use. New or altered mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work also needs a permit, including drain, waste and vent piping, the water supply system, ventilation, and exhaust. The village notes that ordinary repair and maintenance typically does not require a permit when replacement materials are equivalent to the existing ones and structural components and utility systems are not altered.
