What Schaumburg asks for before a remodel starts
The Village of Schaumburg says that whenever you remodel a basement, bathroom, or kitchen, a Residential Building Permit must be submitted and a plan review conducted. The application needs a detailed drawing of the remodeling work together with a written scope of work. Residential permits are filed through the village’s OpenGov portal, and a contractor you hire must hold a Contractor’s Business License with the village before the permit can be issued. Plumbers and roofers are the exception, since the State of Illinois licenses them.

Schaumburg asks for a floor plan at 1/4 inch to 1 foot, existing and proposed walls with any load-bearing walls to be removed, every receptacle and switch location, and the cabinet layout. Kitchen receptacles must be 20 amp GFCI protected and placed so no point is more than 24 inches from an outlet, and the disposal and dishwasher need disconnect switches. A separate electrical permit covers the electrical work.
